Africa, this baboon awaits generous passerbys
and snacks they may offer.

Once used by the San bushmen as a quiver for their arrows,
the Quiver Tree is now considered critically endangered due
to climate change.

Beach Bums
African penguins thriving at Boulders Beach just south of
Cape Town. The beach is home to a colony of over 2500 penguins
and is the only place in the world where humans can swim
alongside penguins.

This proud Oryx stands proud and unafraid against
the Namibian desert. Even as some in our group approach a little too close for comfort.

Dune 45
So named because it is 45 km from the gate inot Sossusvlei, this
170 metre tall dune is composed of 5-million year old sand from the
Kalahari desert and Orange river and a popular climbing spot.

We visited a small school in the capital of Namibia.
The kids there were eager to show us what they were
playing with as the principal explained the school setup.

We pulled into town and parked across from a school for a short while.
Kids flooded over to come and see us, talk and play, and in this case
just get a good look at what we were up to.

The Jacana bird's uniqely long toes allows it to walk
effortlessly atop floating vegetation, spreading its weight
as much as possible and looking, from afar, like it is walking
on the water itself.

Elephants trek to the banks of the Okavango river to get
a drink of water, cool down, and even swim across. Seen
from a small plane touring the delta.

On the Run
Taking a walking safari can be quite nerve wracking, especially
when you see animals get spooked while you stand defenseless
in the tall grass, except for a heavy camera and lens.

Though all dunes are numbered, this particular dune's number
was lost to me. As a result, I've taken to naming it after a
beautiful landmark that it reminds me of.

For a different way to see the wildlife, consider taking a quiet
float across the savanna. Absolutely on of the highlights of our
entire trip to Africa and capped with a breakfast in the plains.

Harry Potter
Hippos are one of the most dangerous animals in Africa,
often underestimated due to their bulk. This one sports a scar
similar to his namesake's famed lightning bolt.

Taken from a boat in the middle of the river, where this hippo
was well aware of our presence and not especially pleased to
see us.

Lions were one of the more common predators to spot, though
that never diminshed the excitement of each encounter.

Petrified Trees
The remains of trees that lived circa 1340-1430, these trees
died off and baked in the sun after the shifting sands cut
them off from their water source.

Even the world's fastest land animal needs to rest
from time to time. These two were leisurely sitting in the
grass waiting for the heat to abate.
